Columbus House Elects Gregory DeStefano to Board of Directors

NORTH HAVEN, CT (January 23, 2009) – Columbus House Inc., in New Haven, has elected Gregory P. DeStefano, principal of Konowitz, Kahn & Company, P.C., to its Board of Directors. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Mr. DeStefano serves as his firm’s chief financial officer and oversees its technology planning function.

Mr. DeStefano, who earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern Connecticut State University, has been practicing accounting for more than 20 years and serves clients in many industries. One of his specialty practice areas is 401(k) Employee Benefit Audits. He is a resident of Shelton.

Active in several community outreach initiatives, DeStefano is a member of the Shelton-Derby Lions Club, treasurer for the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation (CLERF), and a finance committee member for the Valley United Way in Shelton, Connecticut.

Since 1982, Columbus House has been committed to serving people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, by providing shelter and fostering their personal growth and independence. According to the statistics cited on its website, the number of homeless persons has increased 20 percent in the past two years, with 33,000 homeless persons in Connecticut – and over 700 last year in New Haven alone.
